"'As for you, My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, you are men, and I am your God,' declares the Lord God."--Ezekiel 34:31

If you were to look this up in the Bible you would see it under the section entitled "Restoration of Israel" or something like that. And even though the context is God talking to His people in the old testament, I believe that we can claim this promise, the promise that we belong to God, and that God is our God.

Sheep, the dumbest animals on the planet. At least that's what some people say. They don't do well without the care of the shepherd. They have no natural defenses. No claws to claw things, no sharp teeth to bite, no venom to secrete, no spikes that puff when something attacks. No, they just have fleece. White, fluffy, woolly, fleece, oh, and I forgot to mention, a shepherd.

God describes people as sheep all the time. So what does that mean? That we're dumb? How can the greatest being on the planet be dumb. Look at what we've done, look at what we've learned, look, we have prospered. We are not dumb, we are intelligent. Compared to God, we're dumb.

Yet, God describes us as sheep. We are His sheep, He is our shepherd. So maybe I should focus on what the shepherd of the sheep does. He is the one who leads the sheep everywhere. The sheep know his voice, his character. They follow him wherever he leads. Hrmm...I start to think of Psalm 23. Look it up.

It's comforting to think of God as our shepherd. He cares about us, wants what is best for us. Isn't that a great thing? That God loves and cares for us. We are men, and women, and He is our God. He leads us, guides us, protects us, and comes after us. All what a shepherd would do for his sheep.
