Kenya's Children

Posted by Pastor Nick

While reading a blog that I frequently visit, Bene Diction Blogs on, I read this:

My uncle helped found an orphanage in Kenya on an island in Lake Victoria. There are more than 300 kids, many of which were orphaned by the HIV epidemic. Some of the kids are HIV positive. It is without a doubt the most visceral representation I know of what it means to share God’s love.

And tonight it might be burned down.

With the violent unrest destroying a country that many would say AIDS has already destroyed, the orphanage is in danger. There have been threats. Guards have been posted. The food supply delivered to the island is dwindling.

After reading this I thought, I think I need to do my part to raise awareness of this fact. As someone who has gone on mission trips, and worked at orphanages, I have a soft spot in my heart for children such as these. It worries me that the devil is working so hard to bring as many people as he can down.

Kenya has been in conflict for awhile now. And here in the western world we have it easy. All we're worried about is when we'll get our next paycheck, or how we should protect the trees here in the United States. We need to be much more concerned about our Global neighbors than we have been. Awareness is the first step. So what are we going to do?

I just wanted to thank you for posting a link to my site, www.prodigaljohn.com about the Kenyan crisis. I really appreciate it.

Do you mind if I link my site to yours with my blogroll?

Thanks for spreading awareness Nick and for your prayers. We can stop thinking about conflict as being 'something elsewhere.'
