What Are You Proud Of?

"Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, 'Hear the word of the LORD: The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your fathers have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.'" --II Kings 20:16-17

What a thing to say to a king that had just been healed by God. Hezekiah had done what was right in God's eyes, God had healed the sickness that was going to kill Hezekiah, and now God is telling Hezekiah that everything that Hezekiah owns will be taken off by the Babylonians. All because Hezekiah showed off his wealth to the Babylonian ambassadors that came to Jerusalem to find out why the sun had gone backwards.

What are you proud of? What do you show off to people that you know? Do you show off your new stereo? Your new car? Do you show off your clothes or your new Jordan's? Or do you show off God?

In our Christian walk we are constantly working on our relationship with Him, the One and only God. Reading the Bible, studying the Bible, prayer, enjoying nature; are all ways to become closer with God. However, we have this thing on this Earth called pride. We are proud of what we have, proud of what we own.

We are proud of the riches we have, or the cars we have, or the big houses that we have. And we are willing to show those off more than anything. We want everyone to know how well off we are. It's human nature. But there is a problem with that.

Showing off our wealth, and all that God has blessed us with, without giving glory to God can get us in a lot of trouble. Ambassadors from Babylon had come to Jerusalem to seek out why the sun had traveled backwards. When they arrived, instead of Hezekiah showing off God, and witnessing to them about how God had healed him and that the reason the sun went back was because he asked for a sign, he shows off the wealth that he had acquired.

All God asks is that we witness for Him, about Him. Is it so hard to say, "God has certainly blessed me" and mean it? Let God be ruler of your life, and your pride.
